  1. anirudh Says:

Wow great finally yamaha back to form. For the last years there has been no where upto the mark in Indian market

  2. venkat Says:

Not sure if Yamaha is pitcing this bike launch at the right time… fuel prices have gone up and today the barrel cost is 140$ in the market which is again 12$ increase after the recent fuel increase.

What I guess Yamaha should have a got a electric bike instead or a cycle in a sporty look as this bike.

Anyways not sure how yamaha will price this bike and will need to have first hand experience of bike once available here…. till then keep waiting….!

  3. Bulu Pattanaik Says:

    @Anirudh – u r correct After a Long time Yamaha Comming up…

@Venkat – I hope the electric bikes at India really need some major Power boosters, that may fulfil the normal requirments of janta…

As I belive the elctric bikes at India do not even cross a speed of 60 Kms/Hr…

  4. venkat Says:

@bulu – you got the point when our traffic in the city does not allow you to go beyond 40-50km/hr then what is the fun in having a bike that can go 150km/hr 🙂 so i will still stick with electric bikes and they are renewable source of energy available in abundance…you can still be happy that the resale value of your bike wont fall drastically as compaired with a petro bike with this heavy duty fuel prices….

  5. Bulu Pattanaik Says:

    @Venkat
Hmm u r correct, in that case I think the Automobile Industry instead of building of bikes which are no doubt powerful and upto user requirment but in the same time consumes lot of Fuel.. (which is running expensive day by day) Should concentrate themselves in developing Electrical Bikes or anything which is an alternative to these heavy Fuel consumers..

So venkat how abt a startup that could redevelop our present Engines to the Electrical System???

I guess neone who gets the perfect idea to do so would find himself as a billionaire.

    What say???

  6. Abhisek Das Says:

I Dont Think This Bike Will Be A Big Hit!…
I mean although it may hav killer looks but itz still just 150cc…. just 150cc…
    And 150cc aint a super bike…
Karizma is 220cc and bajaj pulsar(abt to b lunched) has 300cc…
and dat too itz price tag is more dan 80,000.
why wud somebody want a 150cc bike for dis much!
he can simply by a simple 150cc bike and modify it!…

Also the body size will be big now so more weight, so how can a 150cc engine pull d heavy body vehicle wid faster speed!…

Also these gave a 6th gear to it!….

I mean plz it may look like a superbike, but Those who hav ride a superbike like me knows speed matters!!..
Although ppl may find it similar to superbike on d mileage matter… 😛

  7. Bulu Pattanaik Says:

    @Abhisek
Hey you hav a point in your comment that the Bike is Under powered…

But one thing if we compare this bike with our rest of the available bikes at India in the 150 – 225 cc range the power of this bike is around 22 bhp, which is pretty good as comparitive to other bikes in India here are a few comparisons

    Pulsar 150 – 13.5 bhp
    Honda Unicorn – 13.3 bhp
    CBZ Extreme – 14.4 bhp
    Hunk – 14.2 bhp
    Apache RTR 160 – 15.2 bhp
    Pulsar 180 – 16 bhp

Some of the above bikes may be more in CC but still if we compare abt the bhp then, here Yamaha worked a bit on it that is 22 bhp which is pretty decent where even Karizma being a 225 CC bike delivers around 17 – 18 bhp power(m not sure abt the exact figures) and Pulsar 220 Delivers around 20 bhp power

And as far as weight is concerned I dont think the fibre body would be heavy…

Neways I hope the bike consumes less fuel…

  8. ivan Says:

good to hear that yamaha is back wih a bang
but at the same time it sad to say that it took much time to launch in the market
it was supposed to launch in the month of march but it got delayed,
also now the fuel price has been hiked so it will put pressure on the people to buy such type of bike
Specification is the best in class—– i can say its excellent: lets c how much the fuel price puts the impact on this bike sale.

  9. Saurabh Bohra Says:

    well discussed friends…
but lemme tell u, the R15 is just 150 cc but still it has the top speed of 150 kms/hr which is heart throbbing….even 220 cc pulsar & karizma are not delivering more than 125 kms/hr….you will be thrilled to know that Yamaha R15 has liquid cooled engine…that means the bike is carring a radiator running by coolant………
it is the matter of speed guys…..it is just a myth abt cc & bhp……there are many more factors which supplies power in the bike…….believe yamaha………..

  10. yaash Says:

its a nice bike we whr waiting 4 its launch>>>>>>>
It will surely SHINES YamahaR15 n we whr waiting 4 know abt its millage response!

  11. DJ Says:

All Are Still Confused with the CC and BHP fight….
its not the cc that decides power…..
    its the bhp…..

though higher cc bikes can be made to deliver more power, and this is their advantage but all the bikes in india are not designed with the fower specs…
i mean the 250 cc bikes frm honda and yamaha develop around 55 BHP and our Karizma and p 220 are hooked up with 18 and 22 horses only…..

so my point is even though a bike is a 150 cc. it can beat the shit out of many bikes in india including the p 220….

remember ho many times the yamaha 1000 moto gp has beaten a hayabusa (1300 CC)

  12. Sanjay Mishra Says:

Hey guys finally Yamaha is bring its most awaited Bike Yamaha R15 To India.

India is one of the biggest market in terms of 2 wheelers. till now in the History Initially Yamaha with RX100 then Hero Honda with Splendar and then Bajaj With its revolutionary Pulsar 150 CC has dominated the Indian Roads. These bikes were famous because of its Looks, comforts and specially Because of it Cost and Milage. But with Yamaha R15 Figures are some what different.
Yamaha R15 is the Bike Which will give raw power with excellent Handling and Superb Styling. Its developed on the Footsteps of Yamaha R1 which is one of the best bikes world wide.
The only thing tht matters Yamaha R15 is its price which is some where around 1,10,000 INR (varies from state to state). And the Hike in the Petrol prices which will affect the most to the popularity of the bike at the time of its launch and initial stages.

  13. ramnarayan Says:

The motorcycle segment has slowed down and bike makers are talking of flat sales for another quarter. But the high end, bigger bike segment, is showing no such signs of slowing down. In fact, Yamaha Motor India Pvt Ltd is betting on that segment, having sold 67 bikes priced over Rs. 10 lakh in the past six months.

“We have sold 67 units of the 1700 cc MT O1 cruiser bike and the YZF R1, a 1,000 cc racing motorcycle that were launched in November last year,” Yutaka Terada, group head, dealer development and planning, Yamaha Motor India, said. These are imported as completely built units (CBUs).

Set for a June 11 launch is the YZF R 15, a 150 cc liquid cooled bike, which is expected to carry an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 1 lakh, ex showroom, and made at its Surajpur plant. This will be followed by the FZ, the 150 cc air cooled bike which it showed at the Delhi Auto Show in January and is slated for an October launch.

“This is the new Yamaha, from 2008 on and we are all set to regain our lost ground. During this year, we are targeting the sale of 20,000 bikes. As the new Yamaha, we are launching a new dealership look, with a design change, a new strategy, where our direct shops, the apparel and accessory stores have a role to play,” Mr Terada said.

Following the inauguration of the auto company’s third lifestyle store in the country in Pune, Mr Terada said they will open the next one in Mumbai, a 7,900 square feet showroom. This will open in August and will be its largest. Yamaha’s first two lifestyle showrooms are in Delhi, one each in the north and south of the city.

“Pune is a very big market for us but we have a very low penetration here. Our market share is around 2% here and we are targeting at least 10% in the near future,” Mr Terada said. This is a sharp fall from a few years ago, when it had a 40% market share.

Yamaha India’s dealer network currently comprises 430 dealerships which it plans to increase by 100 this year. Simultaneously, it will close down 20-30 lower performing outlets, giving it a net rise of 70-80 dealerships this year. All of them will now have a uniform look and design, as part of the makeover.

Yamaha’s product portfolio in the country comprises the 106 cc Crux, Alba and G5, the 125 cc Gladiator SS and RS models, the 1,000 cc YZF R1 and the 1700 cc MT O1. Of these, the bigger bikes are imported as CBUs while the rest are manufactured in India.

  23. Praveen S chauhan Says:

cAN ANY BODY TELL ME THAT HW MUCH DOES IT COST ME
    IF I EILL BUY YAMAHA R15 ?

  24. Aditya Says:

Sexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxy. . That’s the word for it. . well guys a one time investment dosnt hurt at all , it’s the everyday refueling of the vehicle that hurts with the current fuel price. . I have a unicorn that i drive 60 km everyday from my home to the office and vice versa and it gives an average of 50 with an average speed of 80-85 even going to 120 at empty stretches plus have superb balance and control. .I can cover the same distance in my car but it’s the fuel price that hurt’s. . On top of that bikes like karizma etc. are tooo good but at an avarage of 20-25 per litre they are just useless peice of junk that u can ride only on a weekend to go to buy some vegetables. . Even if this bike return’s 40km to a litre and have a top speed of even 130+ i wont mind spending more than 1 lakh on it , with the kind of features it has it’s one gem of a bike . .

  25. sunny Says:

    oops!!
    🙂

    -venkat

    http://www.redweevil.com

  29. Max Says:

    wel said venkat…
i personally inspected the r15…no doubt its a wel advanced bike…but, the faring looked lik some kinda cheap plastic…i was expecting it to b priced around 75k to 80k….and BOOM!! its around 1.2 lakhs(on road)!!!

    now,its time for a detailed analysis,seriously…
wt does these yamaha ppl think of us(Indians)?
do we look lik some kinda illittrates who still live in the 1980s?
first, lets talk abt the design…many think tat its sexy…cool…n stuff…but,if u guys hav time , try to check out yamaha’s new 2008 R125 model(international)in google , which is an 125cc machine ,around 14 bhp..now, tats the exact little brother of the R series..look at its design..so, my point is tat,wen the yamaha ppl r capable of designing an 125 cc machine so wel, why cant they design an 150 cc machine tat way for us(Indians)..why is this difference wen compared to the international market? or do they think tat we , Indians are not capable of handelling hi-tech styling? no,seriously, i fail to understand , why is this discrimination?

second, lets come to the bhp…we actually thought tat the bike wud b around 20 to 22 bhp…but, we’ve got ourselves a 17 bhp machine…most other 150 cc bikes produce around 14 to 15.5 bhp…this R15 is jus around 2 bhp more..and for this they hav created a huge storm among the bikers..something lik “with the launch of this bike we are going to regain the lost brand name”
for obvious reasons we wud b expectiong a good performance bike but, oops…its yet another 17 bhp machine…and ofcourse comes with a huge price..

third, lets talk abt the price…answer me honestly guys..ru willing to pay Rs.1,11,000/- for a bike which has a full faring(looks lik very cheap, plastic, wen seen in person),17 bhp(around 2 bhp more from other 150cc bikes),liquid cooled(hav already used in P200),back disc brake(already used in P220),digital speedo(already used in many bikes),thin tyres and the tail part of the bike looks very much lik a normal commuter bike..?

    A few words abt myself,
im not an anti-yamaha guy n all….matter of fact im a yamaha fan..forever…after all they gave us the RD 350..which had 30 bhp..and 30 bhp from a 2 stroke bike..now tats wt i call POWER!!! RAW POWER!!!
tat was around 25 years back..and now we r getting an 17 bhp bike from them and calling it a true performance bike…i can only laugh at this…i can still bring my 25 yrs old beast(RD 350) and can smoke any motorcycle , produced in India, including R15(im not here comparing RD with R15)..my point is tat, wen yamaha charges tat much for the bike, why not make it a better performance bike and a true power bikes wud never look for kpl.so,yamaha can forget abt the fuel economy n concentrate on the bhp n styling alone..

PROUD TO OWN AN RD 350 (HT) AND A YAMAHA FAN FOREVER!!!

  30. Bulu Pattanaik Says:

yeah even I agree to Max and Venkat.

  31. anti Says:

dear is yamaha motor india really under loss what a cheap bike sold for huge price.they really do business even at service stations its killing people.heard of feast of r15 in chennai a grand one but see those tyres chi chi chi for 1,12,000 thats a huge amount for a bike mind it.how did the japanese in india become so illiterate.may be the engine is good but poor performance and build may be indian bike lovers should wait a little longer than the longest to ride best bikes on roads.and a word of booking poor people without even seeing the bike for once paid an extra cash and waitin eagerly for the not upto the mark build bike.they wait anxiously day after day for two months or more after booking expected shame of yamaha counting for the most expensive bike on road worth? may be one day these service people can earn a fortune of their service too.who knows about their maintainance and service parts let no bad luck come to the big fortune Bike.

  36. Aditya Says:

I guy’s checked the bike on it’s launch as was in lucknow on the 20th. On road price including RTO and Ins is 1.2lakh . Rear tyre looked pathetic but was realy amazed when took the bike on a test drive. Was able to achieve 130+ on a busy raod and the bike was ready to go for more plus the rear tyre was like glued to the road. AWESOME. Was going to book one but the dealer said that they are going to launch a FX or some version with the same tech spec’s around october and the only difference is that in that version the body fairing is somewhat exactly like Ducati. Well i cant wait till then 😦

  40. yamir Says:

Dear Fellows Indian Designed R15 is a great one but there are drawbacks its an electric start bike and no option for a kick start by chance your battery runs out or a short circuit your bike fails to start and your are in the middle of the road..

  41. Aditya Says:

Hey isnt pulsar 220 only an electric start ? Dude how do u start a car when the battery is low. . I dont think any car has a kick to start it. . For all new people the mantra is that you simply run the vehicle a lil bit by pushing it and then apply the 1st gear and leave the cluth. .

  42. Aditya Says:

Hey and this one is for all those critics. . Biker’s dont care whether it’s a pulsar , honda , suzuki or yamaha the main thing is your passion for speed and the love for ur machine. .

    Hi,
it’s a cool bike ya. I always wanted to buy a sports bike like yamaha.
it has got the power, the aerodynamic body, the sexy look & what else does it need.
I wanted to buy this bike for a long time but waiting so long i bought a karizma bike which does not satisfy my needs couse it has got less power & it takes a long time to hit 0 to 60 kmph such a boaring bike.

those of you who said all above this comment about the tyre being too thin… then I feel pity on them, guys you just cannot judge a book by its cover right. why no go and get a hand on this machine and then go on beating about the bush. go on and compare this bike with any other bike in the indian roads in terms of all handling, cornering and agility… you know why the R15 bike has not folding mirrors… coz its really fun to see the other bike behind it. The tyre is specailly design to best suit what it is made for.. so avoid it. Well in terms of bike. the pricing seem quite high.. but look at the quality and its ride its definitely worth a buy. i see people comparing it with P220 with price and the later being more on cc and bhp mathematics.. do you trust bajaj.. they have the worst ride quality and bike on road even TVS is quite good these days.. the bajaj really sucks! the overall bike is a best buy! go grab the ride!!!

  60. bezil shrestha Says:

    dear vipul bharati,
the problem of your bike is not due to poor quality… and its ur first case for the bike not being able to start with self.. have you checked the oil.. and other natural things to do daily. And, i always believe that a wearer knows where the shoe pinches so give proper description what all happened.. it cannot just stop breathing. u must have done something to your new machine! but i wonder have u really brought the bike or not!!!!

  61. paddy Says:

you need to own the bike to tell the story…..yahama enggineers are not mad ppl to make such a bike with so many drawbacks….the tyres r best suited for r15 and a 150cc bike with so much grip…..n the bike is technologically advanced so the price factor has gone up….so many features possesed by this bike…
    i hope u listning… balu n venkat

  62. paddy Says:

    i agree with bezil shrestha…

I HAVE BEEN USING YAMAHA R15 FROM PAST 8 MONTHS APART FROM LOOKS THE BIKE IS NOT VFM AS POOR SERVICE IS GIVEN BY THEIR SERVICE CENTRES AND SOFT COMPOUND TYRES WILL NOT HELP EITHER AS BE READY TO GET LOT OF PUNCTURES AND REAR BRAKE IS POOR THOUGH ITS CALLED A DISC ONE,DO THINK TWICE IF U ARE PLANNING TO BUY THIS MACHINE BUY IT TO DECORATE UR HOME NOT FOR DRIVING IN INDIA

  68. ahmed Says:

iam looking to purchase yamaha r15 @55/-2009 model blue or black if any just cal me 984973278

  69. SiD13 Says:

A few category of people can hate or dislike R15 totally. they are:

    1. people who dont like or cant appreciate anything other than the machines owned by them (obviously they dont own R15)
    2. People who dont have any idea about bikes or the technological advancements in international biking scene.
    3. Complete idiots
    4. novices who think CC is the biggest performance parameter
5.People who are blindly loyal to the brand they own. (these are actually dumb heads according to me. love the machine(the model), not the brand)

  70. robi cahyadi Says:
